Welcome to the delightful world of Kansai Yamato Cafe, a hidden gem nestled at 1035 University Ave, Honolulu, HI 96826. This charming café specializes in authentic Japanese desserts, with a focus on their standout offering: mochi. Each piece is crafted with love, bringing together traditional flavors and innovative twists. Whether you’re a lifelong fan of these chewy treats or a newcomer eager to explore, Kansai Yamato Cafe promises to be a haven for dessert lovers.
As you step into the café, the enticing aroma and warm ambiance invite you to indulge in an array of delightful options. A must-try is the Fruit Chichi Chichi Dango, a luxurious blend of strawberry, whipped cream, and red bean, available for just $7.99. If you’re in the mood for something nutty, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Mochi, featuring crunchy peanut butter chocolate chips enveloped in silky chocolate mochi for $6.99, delivers a playful yet rich flavor experience.
But it's not just the regular menu that shines; seasonal offerings elevate the experience, too. During special occasions like Valentine’s Day, you can find exclusive delights such as Ube Lima Bean Mochi and Chocolate Daifuku. Priced at $6.99, these limited-time goodies provide an extra layer of excitement to every visit.
Café-goers, like Grace Toyonaga, sing praises for the exceptional quality of the mochi and the kindhearted service offered. Many customers, including Joanne Yeung, suggest visiting the physical location to grasp the full experience but also maintain that it's possible to find these treats in select stores, making them accessible to all.
Despite its modest size, the Kansai Yamato Cafe is a hub of happiness and dedication, as exemplified by the well-organized staff. With a clear focus on efficiency and customer satisfaction, it’s evident that every individual's experience matters. As a reviewer, I cannot help but echo the sentiments of Graham C, who declared it “the best mochi on the island,” a claim backed by numerous recommendations and rave reviews from fellow patrons.
In conclusion, visiting Kansai Yamato Cafe is not merely about satisfying your sweet tooth; it’s about journeying into a world of flavor, craftsmanship, and joy. Your visit will surely leave you longing for more, as you can’t help but feel like you have discovered a delightful secret in the heart of Honolulu.

“ Havent been to the location yet, but was able to snag some at Don Quiote. This is some yum yum mochi cant wait to visit sometime. ”
“ What a treat! Simply delicious. I can definitely recommend you to go and find out for yourself. ”
“ The best mochi on the island! Do not miss. It doesnt matter what flavor you get. You will be blown away! ”
“ Good mochi. Havent tried their exotic flavours yet like Peanut Butter or Mango just the basic, goodolfashioned red bean paste and sesame. I keep saying the next time I come here I will try the exotics, and then end up buying the traditional ones. Maybe next time. Their rice series is not bad as well sansai and sekihan. They run out fast though it seems since theyre usually sold out by the time I get there in the PM. Maybe next time in the AM. Staff are all hard working I couldnt help but take their pic theres no idle chatting here all business. And mochi. ”
“ Very soft and smooth mochi! ”
“ The dango and mochi are outstanding. I cannot wait to sample every flavor. ”
“ The fresh mango mochi here is soooo good! A juicy huge slice of mango gets covered with a thin layer of sweet white bean paste and fresh mochi. Personally we could have done without the bean paste as it almost makes the mochi overall too sweet, but the overall freshness, satisfaction and juiciness are just unbeatable for five bucks. The ladies working here make the mochi fresh and are so kind to help you check their stock or reserve mochi for you if you call ahead too which we recommend cuz this mango mochi sells out fast by the afternoon!!. ”
